The Ministry of Youth and Sports in Somalia expressed its regret after international referee Omar Artan was excluded from participating in the 2026 World Cup, despite being officially selected as part of the referees' list by FIFA. The ministry confirmed that it attempted diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis, but was unsuccessful in having the ban reconsidered, which resulted in Artan's withdrawal from the tournament. The statement regarded Artan as a proud example for Somali youth and emphasized their continued support for his international career despite this obstacle.
