The United Nations Security Council held a session to discuss the humanitarian and political situation in Syria. The United States affirmed that Syria is no longer classified as a state sponsor of terrorism and expressed its intention to support efforts in combatting terrorism and advancing political progress. France highlighted the responsibility of the Syrian People's Council during the transitional phase and called for the lifting of sanctions to promote economic recovery. Meanwhile, Russia’s representative noted that the Syrian government has made progress in the political process, and recent steps have contributed to strengthening the unity and stability of the country. UN officials also pointed out that the displacement of more than 5.5 million people within Syria continues, and dealing with landmines and debris removal are essential for recovery. Additionally, the Deputy UN Envoy criticized the presence of Israel east of the ceasefire line, while concerns remain over ongoing terrorism risks, especially from ISIS.
