The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced plans to spend around two million dollars on purchasing robotic dogs to support inspection operations, according to a funding document from the Department of Homeland Security. These robots, such as Boston Dynamics' "Spot" model, will be used to monitor and assess risks in potentially hazardous environments, without being employed for detention purposes. The robotic dogs are equipped with cameras and sensors to detect vibrations, gases, and radiation, with a strict commitment not to use them as weapons or autonomous targeting systems. This development comes amid increasing protests against immigration and customs enforcement policies in the United States.
