The free zones in Syria have transformed into a pathway for recovery and investment activity, beginning to regain their vitality after years of decline, with an unprecedented increase in investment movement and project expansion. Efforts include modernizing infrastructure such as road networks, electricity, and water supply, rehabilitating railway lines, and activating dry ports as well as enhancing rail connectivity to facilitate the movement of goods and investments. Recent agreements also reflect growing international interest in Syria as a geo-economic site, exemplified by projects like the establishment of a model free zone in Idlib. Development efforts have streamlined the process of starting a business to just six steps within 15 days. Occupancy rates in free zones have risen to 100% in some sectors, with expectations of reaching 90% investment attraction by the end of the year. Additionally, the institution is working on updating investment legislation, including a draft modern investment law, aiming to attract more investors and strengthen Syria's position as a regional and global logistics and commercial hub.
