The Aleppo-based artist Shadi Jamil publicly apologized to the Syrian people for his previous positions, in which he praised the ousted President Bashar al-Assad, especially those that appeared during a concert in Venezuela in 2014, which sparked widespread controversy. The apology came after a clip of that concert was circulated again, and a planned concert at the Damascus Opera House was canceled following popular demands and protests against his stance. Jamil confirmed that he wishes to move beyond the past period, that he is committed to the laws of his hometown Aleppo, and that Syria is his homeland. He expressed his love and connection to his country and stated that he has no intention of leaving the country.
