Many families of the missing and enforced disappeared in Syria suffer from long-term psychological and social impacts due to the uncertainty surrounding the fate of their loved ones. The lack of clarity about their loved ones' whereabouts leads to a state of "mysterious loss," which prevents families from fully coming to terms with their grief. The prolonged waiting causes ongoing mental tension, leaving families trapped between hope for a return and a persistent fear of loss. This situation affects their social and economic lives. Experts emphasize the importance of providing trustworthy information and psychological support focused on managing anxiety, while respecting families' right to hope and to seek the truth—without forcing them to accept death or dismiss their memories of their loved ones.
