War debris in Syria causes death every six hours

The remnants of war in Syria, such as landmines and unexploded ordnance, have caused the death or injury of one person every six hours since the start of the year. This has resulted in approximately 700 deaths, including more than a third of children, and has hindered the rebuilding of homes and the planting of land. Demining operations face challenges due to the vast contaminated areas and resource shortages, with the cleansing process expected to take decades—up to 20 or 30 years—to be completed fully.
