The case of the young man Mohamed Ghamira's death tests the seriousness of the Syrian state's commitment to holding security misconduct accountable. The investigation revealed that one of the investigators slapped him on the neck, despite this incident not directly causing his death, which was due to a brain hemorrhage resulting from medical complications. The findings affirm that acknowledging violations and holding responsible parties accountable strengthen the community's trust in the security institution. They also demonstrate that legal protection applies to all employees, as the state considers the dignity of detainees to be a trust and a responsibility that goes beyond mere detention—to safeguarding human rights. The case underscores that justice comes above all, and that uncovering the truth and punishing wrongdoers are fundamental to building trust and achieving reform within security institutions.
