Atef Henidi, one of the traditional leaders in Suweida, left for Damascus after being detained at his home in the al-Majdal town in the western countryside. The incident occurred following an intervention by the National Guard forces, who took him to the Umm al-Zeitoun checkpoint on the Damascus road amidst tension in the area, with gatherings associated with armed groups, gunfire, and explosions directed at his home. Henidi had previously issued a statement rejecting any links between Suweida and Israel, which sparked controversy on social media. This led to his summons and preparations for his safe transfer, according to the National Guard's statement. He is a well-known figure for his nationalist stances opposing the former Syrian regime, and other traditional figures from the area have left before him.
