The issue concerns the Turkmen community in Syria regarding the reintroduction of the Turkish language as an elective subject in schools, following its suspension due to the standardization of curricula in northern Aleppo regions. Previously, Turkish was widely taught in schools and institutes. The representatives of Syria's Turkmen demand that the teaching of the Turkish language be maintained, considering it essential for preserving their linguistic and cultural rights, and regard it as part of their constitutional and legal rights. This comes amid differing educational policies, as the Ministry of Education has now included Kurdish as a "national language" in certain areas. This highlights the challenge of balancing curriculum standardization while protecting the rights of local languages, emphasizing the importance of preserving the Turkmen cultural identity in Syria.
