The CEO of the Syrian Petroleum Company announced the commencement of maintenance and requalification works at the Baniyas refinery, aimed at increasing its production capacity from approximately 80,000 barrels per day to around 130,000 barrels per day. The works include replacing a reactor, upgrading the distillation unit, and the power station. The distillation unit is expected to be completed within two months, with the improvement section following in an additional month, due to the reactor’s age, as it has not been replaced in over 40 years. This development will contribute to increasing local petroleum derivatives production and reducing dependence on imports.
