The petroleum derivatives market in Syria is facing new pressures due to several factors, including a heavy reliance on imports, which account for over 70% of needs; a temporary halt in refining activities caused by refurbishing works at the Baniyas refinery; and rising shipping and insurance costs resulting from regional and global disruptions. These pressures are occurring amidst the interplay of three main factors: a significant dependence on imports, a temporary reduction in refining capacity, and challenges in the global market such as soaring oil prices and increased shipping costs. As a result, fuel prices are experiencing a temporary and exceptional increase, impacting the availability of gasoline and diesel. This situation calls for flexible pricing management to ensure stable supply and maintain a balance in costs for citizens.
