Syrian receives life sentence for Bielefeld attack

The Supreme Court in Düsseldorf sentenced a 36-year-old Syrian to life imprisonment after he was convicted of carrying out a terrorist attack in the city of Bielefeld, which resulted in several people sustaining serious injuries. The court found him guilty of four attempted murders and considered the crime to be of especially severe gravity, with the possibility of preventive detention after the completion of his sentence if his danger persists. The attack occurred in May 2025 when he targeted revelers with a bladed weapon. The motivation was jihadist, linked to radical Islamist views, with suspicion of ties to the "ISIS" organization.
