German retiree loses assistance over bottle costs
The decision by Hamburg authorities to allow a 75-year-old retiree to collect up to 50 euros per month from the proceeds of used bottles without deducting from his social aid has sparked a debate about the situation of low-income elderly people in Germany. Initially, the authorities considered this income as an addition to his existing income and would deduct it from his benefits. However, after discussions at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs level, the region reconsidered and decided to grant an exception, allowing him to collect bottles within this limit without it affecting his assistance.
