Japanese schools close over bear sighting
Japanese authorities closed around 100 schools in the city of Otsuomia north of Tokyo as a precautionary measure after a bear was sighted roaming the area. A total of 94 elementary and junior high schools were shut down following more than 10 reports of bear sightings since Saturday, amidst extensive search efforts involving hunters, police, and local officials. These measures come in the wake of bear attacks that injured four people in Fukushima last year, amid a growing presence of bears in urban areas.
