Sony to stop PlayStation discs in 2028
Sony has announced that it will cease producing discs for new PlayStation games starting January 2028, as the company shifts entirely towards digital distribution, which accounted for approximately 80% of sales in the fiscal year 2025. New games will be sold exclusively through the PlayStation Store or via digital codes, while the PlayStation stores on PlayStation 3 and Vita consoles will gradually close down by 2027. This move comes in response to the growing reliance on digital downloads and the decline in demand for physical discs.
