Sony plans to end physical game releases by 2028
Sony has announced that it will gradually cease releasing physical game copies on discs starting in 2028, with new games being available solely through digital codes for activation and download instead of discs. This decision aims to adapt to market preferences and the increasing reliance on digital distribution, but it has faced widespread criticism from the gaming community, which warns of a decline in consumer rights and the difficulties involved in borrowing or selling digital games.
