Microsoft announces 4,800 job cuts and restructuring of the Xbox division
Microsoft has announced the layoff of 4,800 employees, accounting for approximately 2.1% of its global workforce, as part of a restructuring of its gaming division (Xbox) and the closure of five studio locations. The process will include the termination of 3,200 jobs, including 1,600 today, in an effort to boost revenue following substantial investments in this sector. Despite these efforts, the company has faced difficulties competing with Sony and Nintendo, which has led to a strategy of distributing games across multiple platforms instead of relying solely on exclusive titles. Additionally, the company announced its intention to increase Xbox console prices starting next August due to a shortage of electronic chips.
