A lawsuit from 33 U.S. states seeks $1.4 trillion in damages from Meta

Thirty-three U.S. states have filed a lawsuit against Meta, accusing the company of exploiting minors on Instagram and Facebook to generate financial gains by collecting children's data without parental consent and misleading users about the elements that make the platforms addictive. The states are seeking damages of up to $1.4 trillion, an amount roughly comparable to the company's market value, which exceeds $1.5 trillion. Meta denies these allegations and is attempting to have the lawsuit dismissed, but it faces increasing legal resistance over issues related to the impact of its platforms on children's mental health.
