China announced the establishment of the Global Organization for Artificial Intelligence Cooperation during a conference in Shanghai, aimed at promoting international collaboration in research and development, knowledge sharing, and ensuring the safe and responsible use of this technology. This international framework seeks to establish common rules for regulating AI, avoiding marginalization or dominance by major powers—especially as competition between China and the United States intensifies over leadership in the sector. A total of 29 countries signed on to establish the organization. Through this move, China aims to enhance its influence in shaping global AI policies and to develop regulatory frameworks aligned with its interests, while also facing the challenge of achieving international consensus on effective and balanced regulation of the technology.
