WhatsApp introduces username option to hide numbers
WhatsApp has gradually rolled out the username feature to Android and iPhone users, aimed at enhancing privacy and making it easier to start conversations without sharing your phone number. The feature allows users to create unique usernames like @Name123, enabling new chats to be initiated without revealing their phone numbers, while still requiring a phone number to create and activate the account. This feature does not support searching for users partially and includes safety measures to prevent impersonation and spam messages. It also provides notifications when a username is changed to ensure the account's identity remains clear. Currently, the feature is being rolled out gradually and may be delayed in some countries, such as India, due to concerns about fraud and identity theft.
