Google updates Android backup rules
Google has announced a change in its policy for calculating storage space used by backups on Android devices. Data stored within backups will now be counted as part of the total available storage in a Google Account. The data considered includes text messages, call history, device and app settings, photos, and other files, which could lead to an increase in storage consumption by approximately 40 megabytes on average—especially for users who store large amounts of multimedia content. Additionally, automatic backups will cease once the storage is full, potentially resulting in the loss of recent data. These changes aim to standardize the way data is accounted for within storage limits and provide tools for users to control the types of data being backed up. Users will also have the option to manage their storage through Google One, allowing them to review their storage usage before these updates take effect in 45 days.
