The "Hugging Face" platform, which hosts more than two million open-source AI models, was targeted by a cyber attack carried out by a capable AI agent. The attacker gained access to internal data and cloud credentials. They exploited a vulnerability in data and model uploads, uploading a malicious dataset that triggered malicious code execution and access to sensitive information before being stopped through security measures. The platform confirmed that the publicly available data of models and users was not affected, but advised users to change their passwords and access tokens to enhance security, especially given the recurrence of attacks involving AI agents powered by broken or restricted models.
