The European Commission has concluded that TikTok violated the Digital Services Act by failing to protect the accounts of minors, as it was able to access content from children aged 16 and 17 despite privacy settings, thereby exposing them to risks. These are the fourth set of accusations against the platform, which previously included charges of designing features that promote addiction, lack of transparency in advertising, and failure to provide the necessary data to researchers. TikTok affirms that it has implemented special protective settings for minors’ accounts and is currently reviewing the findings with the regulatory authority to avoid penalties, and is prepared to respond in the coming days.
