Threat actors exploit ad data for cyberattacks

A report by Kaspersky reveals that advertising data has become a growing target for exploitation by cyber attackers and cybercriminals. The infrastructure of advertising platforms is being used to collect precise personal information about users. The techniques employed include gathering browsing habits, geolocation data, and device information, enabling attackers to accurately identify and target their victims. Cybercriminals can exploit advertising networks to spread malicious software, such as spyware that operates without user interaction, as well as direct users to malicious websites via malicious ads. The company emphasizes the need for organizations to recognize that the attack surface is no longer limited to traditional email methods, and that exploiting advertising space poses an escalating threat requiring enhanced cybersecurity measures.
