A school district in New York plans to pilot an educational robot named "Sally" to enhance the teaching process. However, the plan has been delayed due to criticisms focusing on concerns about data privacy, the background of the company "Realbotix" that developed the robot, and the selection of a school serving indigenous students. The criticisms, led by the teachers' union, emphasize that students need genuine human interaction rather than robots that merely simulate facial expressions, especially considering that the robot costs up to $58,000. Teachers have also expressed concerns about the types of data that will be collected and how it will be handled. Officials, on the other hand, assured that the goal is to support the educational process, not replace teachers, with the company emphasizing that the robot is intended to improve education, not substitute human educators.
