Apple is facing increasing political pressure in the United States over its plans to purchase memory chips from two Chinese companies listed on the U.S. blacklists, CXMT and YMTC. Senators from both parties have demanded that Apple commit not to incorporate chips from these companies into its products, due to concerns that they may originate from facilities supporting Beijing's military capabilities. Legislators also warned that reliance on these chips could harm the American memory chip industry and impact local investments, particularly as the company continues to face a shortage of chip supplies and rising prices. This comes at a time when Apple is seeking U.S. approval to buy chips from Chinese firms, as it continues testing random-access memory chips from CXMT amid fears of repeating the political and economic challenges it faces in global supply chains.
