OpenAI has temporarily halted the development of its highly anticipated model, "Astro," after internal tests showed significant progress in its cybersecurity capabilities, particularly in programming and vulnerability detection. This decision was driven by concerns that the model might reach a "critical" level where it could identify and develop security flaws without human intervention, posing a threat to the balance between AI development and cybersecurity. The company aims to enhance the model's capabilities while implementing strict safety measures to ensure risk management, especially since advanced abilities could be exploited in widespread cyberattacks if they are not aligned with existing security systems.
