The article discusses the development of a large data center project belonging to Amazon's "AWS" near Gilroy, California, which progressed from planning to active construction in less than a year. The project is estimated to be worth around two billion dollars and includes the construction of two data center buildings and infrastructure expansion works, including a 98-megawatt power station. The project also faces local controversy over water consumption, as it will require millions of gallons annually, involve the conversion of agricultural lands, and has encountered residents' objections regarding approval procedures and oversight during implementation, amid environmental concerns and debates over public participation in the decision-making process.
