NVIDIA starts sending 20,000 H200 chips to China

Reports indicate that the United States has authorized the export of NVIDIA's H200 AI chips to China, after an 8-month suspension. Approximately 10,000 chips have been shipped to companies like ByteDance and Tencent, although this amount is relatively small compared to the maximum permitted of 75,000 chips per Chinese company. This move represents a significant development in the trade relations between the two countries, amidst restrictions and Beijing's attempts to bypass the ban by transmitting chips through Hong Kong, where Chinese companies use networks to enable access to the chips within China. The Chinese government is actively maneuvering with the support of substantial investment plans to bolster its domestic chip industry, while Washington is implementing measures to counteract license exploitation and limit the access of American chips to the Chinese market.
