Tesla and eight other car manufacturers announced the recall of approximately 4.3 million vehicles in China due to concerns about difficulty opening doors in emergencies. This is the largest recall of its kind in the country. Corrective measures will include software updates and the provision of warning labels. Additionally, China has decided to ban hidden door handles starting from 2027, as they are a technology relied upon by Tesla and local companies. Tesla also informed its suppliers not to use Chinese-made components for vehicles sold in the US market, amid tensions between Washington and Beijing, with the company recalling 2.98 million vehicles of various models.
