Unusual Signal Leads to Jawiish's Apartment
The article reveals details about the pursuit and arrest of the Israeli spy Eli Cohen by Syrian intelligence agencies in the 1960s, based on investigations by Syrian intelligence officer Saeed Jawoosh. The operation began with monitoring mysterious radio signals detected as early as 1962. Subsequently, efforts focused on locating the broadcast source in Damascus by tracking antennas and individuals close to the suspected parties, such as a pilot from Syrian Airlines and diplomatic figures. After intensive efforts, the house of a suspect named Kamil Ameen Thabit was pinpointed. During Ramadan, the house was broken into, leading to a search that uncovered a transmitting device and decryptions linked to Eli Cohen's espionage activities. The account confirms that the operation culminated in Cohen's capture after laying the groundwork through signal tracking and meticulous inspections. It emphasizes that skill and strategic planning were central to Syrian intelligence's success in exposing one of Israel's most notorious spies.
