Chinese physics could reveal American F-35 hiding

The study published by the Chinese Academy of Rockets focused on developing a single-photon LIDAR system capable of detecting stealth aircraft such as the F-35 from distances up to 61.5 kilometers at night and 27.7 kilometers during the day. The system relies on LIDAR technology, which sends laser light pulses and captures the reflected light, and it features high sensitivity allowing it to detect very small numbers of photons. Although the results are based on computer simulations and have not yet been tested on a real missile, they offer a new perspective on attempts to detect camouflaged aircraft. It is noted that this technology may be more effective in the final stages of an engagement, but it does not entirely eliminate stealth capabilities. The ongoing game of "cat and mouse" between camouflage and detection methods will continue.
