WhatsApp tests login restrictions on outdated OS
WhatsApp will implement a new security measure through its servers that prevents users from logging in if their devices are running outdated, unsupported operating systems from iOS or Android. If an unsupported operating system is detected, the app will display a screen prompting the user to update their system, along with instructions on how to access settings and check the current version. This measure aims to reduce the risks of security vulnerabilities being exploited by attackers, as vulnerabilities in older operating systems pose a security and data threat—especially since WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption does not prevent the exploitation of such vulnerabilities. WhatsApp has not yet specified the minimum affected system versions or the timeline for a widespread rollout.
