Syria and Meta consider resuming Facebook and apps
The article discusses Syria's efforts in collaboration with Meta to resume and develop the services of their platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp within the country. This comes as part of the Syrian government's initiatives to revitalize the digital economy and upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure. The two sides reviewed the restart steps, which include advertising tools and business services, as well as projects aimed at expanding internet networks and enhancing their services through the "Celik Link" project. This project targets updating the internet backbone and providing high-capacity international connection routes. Syrian officials and diplomats praised the digital vision and the importance of developing local technology, with a focus on supporting the growth of small and medium enterprises and accessing the global market. These steps follow a gradual improvement in the government's attitude towards international tech companies, especially after the lifting of U.S. sanctions on certain technological sectors since 2025. This has allowed a phased return of global tech services and opened new prospects for communication and digital development in Syria.
