Press Council warns on child crime coverage
The directives from the Press Council pertain to the media handling of crimes related to child rape and sexual harassment. They emphasize the importance of respecting the child's rights, protecting their identity and privacy, and avoiding publishing details that could reveal or disclose their identity. It also underscores the need to distinguish between the incident itself, news reports, and judicial investigations, as well as to prevent provoking public opinion or exploiting the child's suffering. Violators should be held accountable according to the laws to ensure the child's protection and safety, all while safeguarding the public's right to information.
