Plan to supply Tunisian families with free solar panels
The National Trade Union Chamber of Voltages has proposed the "Energy Citizenship" program in Tunisia. The aim of this initiative is to equip one million households that consume less than 100 kWh per month with free solar panels over five years, at a rate of 200,000 households annually. The program seeks to reduce energy subsidy costs by approximately two billion Tunisian dinars during this period, through funding from the Energy Transition Fund in partnership with banks. The project includes installing solar panels and inverters that convert direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC), allowing households to consume the generated electricity directly, with the option to draw from the grid when necessary. This measure aims to improve the financial balance of the Tunisian Electricity Company and promote greater reliance on solar energy.
