Ukraine develops soldierless military
Ukraine is moving toward building an army that relies on robots and drones on the battlefield instead of relying entirely on soldiers, with the aim of reducing risks to human troops. Over the course of six months, unmanned ground vehicles have carried out more than 50,000 combat and logistical missions, and their units have increased from 117 to 230, with 67 new models of vehicles introduced. These robots are used in supply, casualty evacuation, and combat tasks such as mine planting, reconnaissance, and deploying explosive delivery platforms. They have achieved tangible successes, especially in reclaiming territory and demining efforts, although the robots remain under human control and face technical and environmental challenges. The program aims to produce large quantities of simple, inexpensive vehicles, with the expectation that by the end of the year, robots could replace up to one-third of front-line human forces.
