American woman survives after two lethal doses
American Krista Pike, who was convicted of murder, experienced a severe failure in carrying out her execution in the state of Tennessee. She remained unconscious and on a ventilator for four days after the attempt, and her true condition was not accurately known until several days later. She survived two doses of Pentobarbital, a lethal substance, leading to an investigation and a temporary halt of executions after the failed attempt. The state prison system official resigned amid repeated failures in executing inmates. It is worth noting that Pike had committed the murder of a schoolmate in 1995 when she was 18 years old, and she was subsequently sentenced to death.
