Nationwide Sports Event Promotes Organ Donation
The Ministry of Health and the National Center for Organ Donation will organize a sports and awareness event on October 18, 2026, under the slogan "We All Play Our Part for Organ Donation." The event aims to promote a culture of donation and raise awareness about the importance of solidarity in saving the lives of waiting patients. The event will feature races over different distances and live testimonies from successful transplant patients, along with direct awareness campaigns starting at 8 a.m. across 20 states to ensure full coverage. Although the number of registered donors is approaching 19,000, the refusal of families of the deceased significantly hampers transplantation efforts, with about 70% of donation cases being rejected. Nonetheless, 31 transplant surgeries had been performed by mid-2026, thanks to 11 donors in brain death condition. This highlights the shortage of organs and the current limited capabilities.
