Romania: 8 Die in Black Sea Ship Fire
Romania has reported two fires on tankers in the Black Sea, resulting in the loss of eight crew members amid concerns that the attacks are linked to Russian-made drones. These incidents occur amid a surge in attacks on cargo ships near the coasts of Romania and Bulgaria over the past ten days, which have led to the disappearance of 23 sailors. The events coincided with Russian drone aircraft entering Romanian airspace. Attacks on Black Sea ports are part of an escalation in the conflict related to the Russian-Ukrainian war and threaten to worsen the global food crisis, as Ukraine and other countries rely on shipping routes through the Danube River to transport grains.
