Bizerte farmers upset over feed costs
The article discussed the regional farmers' union in Bizerte's rejection of sudden increases in compound feed prices, which ranged between 20 dinars per ton for cattle and sheep, and 40 dinars for turkeys. They considered these increases to be in conflict with the government's stance that encourages the development of agricultural production and to threaten the sustainability of livestock and poultry breeders. The union confirmed that these increases lead to significant economic losses and gradually cause higher prices for red and white meats, negatively impacting citizens' purchasing power. This situation is compounded by the sector's struggles with rising input costs, power outages, and increasing animal fatalities due to harsh weather conditions. The representatives called for a consultative approach with farmers, investment in high-protein crops, and improved sale prices to strengthen the sector and reduce reliance on imports.
