Italy Reports on Tunisia's Self-Financing Crisis
An Italian report warns that the "self-financing" plan adopted by Tunisia to cover its fiscal deficit threatens to deplete its economic resources and worsen the financial crisis. This is due to the halt in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and the rise of public debt to 84.9% of GDP, while youth unemployment—including those with higher education—remains at 37.5%. The report also highlights that reliance on domestic liquidity without productive growth deepens inflation and hampers economic development. It criticizes the continued neglect of fundamental solutions to the financial crisis, noting that European policies are mainly focused on regional security through financial support to Tunisia, out of concern over an influx of irregular migrants.
