A U.S. strike targeted Iran’s Qeshm Island, which overlooks the Strait of Hormuz, early Tuesday in response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ launch of a missile toward a U.S. fighter jet on Monday evening, according to U.S. officials. Reports said the strike hit radar equipment and missile-launch platforms. Officials described it as defensive, saying it did not signal a resumption of attacks on Iran or the start of an escalation. The IRGC had announced that it had shot down two U.S. reconnaissance aircraft near the island.
