Preliminary results from the US midterm elections showed that Democrats had taken control of the Senate, bringing their total to 53 seats. They had also won control of the House and, according to projections by US networks, were close to securing it. Democrats won seats in at least six states, including Republican strongholds. Roy Cooper won in North Carolina, Annie Andrews in South Carolina, and Jon Ossoff was reelected in Georgia. Donald Trump acknowledged the losses and said he would accept the results, but blamed Republican candidates and vowed to veto potential Democratic legislation. He noted that the Iran war had affected his party’s performance.
