The International Football Association (FIFA) has imposed a five-match suspension on Qatari midfielder Asim Madbou for his rough tackle on a Canadian player during the 2026 World Cup match between Canada and Qatar. Madbou's challenge resulted in Sassuolo player Ismaël Koné suffering a broken leg, and he underwent successful surgery after being carried off the field on a stretcher. It is worth noting that the penalty may be subject to appeal. The injury left Koné affected and using a wheelchair, until Madbou visited the player in the hospital with the Qatari Minister of Sports to check on his condition.
