Iran has experienced a significant increase in executions of political prisoners, with 44 executions carried out since March 18, according to human rights organizations. The director of the Iranian Human Rights Organization believes this is occurring amid a decline in international attention and political isolation, and that the regime is using the war as a pretext to escalate executions and send messages of fear to the population. It is worth noting that the Trump administration previously claimed to have abolished the execution of over 800 people, but the current situation indicates a deterioration of human rights amid increasing repression.
