The duck "Merlin," weighing 2.5 kilograms and linked to special feelings with her owner's family, gained widespread fame during the 2026 World Cup after a picture of her wearing the Mexican national team's jersey went viral. This made her an unofficial mascot of the tournament. She became an internet sensation and received official honors, including a welcome from the President of Mexico. Despite her popularity and status as a symbol for fans of the team, she was prevented from entering the stadiums' stands during the matches due to FIFA regulations.
