Sakhiri records fastest own goal in 2026 World Cup
Tunisian national team player Elyes Sghiri made history at the 2026 World Cup by setting a negative record, scoring the fastest own goal in the tournament's history in just 2 minutes and 22 seconds. This makes it the second-fastest goal ever in the World Cup, after a goal scored in 2014. His own goal came in the match between Tunisia and the Netherlands, which marked the end of Carthage Eagles' participation in the tournament after heavy defeats in the previous two games. Sghiri is also the player who scored the fastest goal via an own goal in the 2026 edition, surpassing a record set by Paraguay in the opening match of that tournament.
