Swedes' Midsummer Day Customs
Midsummer in Sweden is one of the most prominent cultural celebrations observed by the Swedish people in June. During this holiday, people gather around the maypole to dance and sing, participating in ancient traditions such as placing flower crowns and collecting flowers under their pillows to predict the future. The festivities include a traditional lunch featuring pickled herring, potatoes, cheese pies, and a strawberry cake, accompanied by dancing around the maypole and traditional songs. This holiday tradition dates back to the Middle Ages and is linked to pagan beliefs related to nature and fertility. It is considered an important social event, with thousands taking part both in Sweden and in other cities like London and New York.
